Having ADHD doesn't define a child as disabled, and needing a different approach to learning shouldn't be seen as merely accommodating.
These labels can unfairly judge a child, suggesting their way of understanding the world is wrong. Some students struggle academically because traditional learning environments don't suit their unique instincts. But diversity is what makes us beautiful and strong.
Children start forming their identity around age 3, building trust in their instincts and minds.
Encouraging this self-discovery in a supportive environment is crucial.
Imagine a child who learns best while moving, forced to sit still for hours.
Are we meeting their needs? Are we respecting their learning style?
As a teacher in society, our role is to tailor learning experiences to each student's pathway. And homeschool parents have a unique advantage in which they know their child best. And offering choices empowers students to express their needs and trust their instincts as learners.
Flexible thinking is key. It means being open to new ideas and approaches. Ask yourself:
- How can I adapt to meet my students' needs?
- How can I create a flexible environment, schedule, or lesson plan?
